Anderson, killer of ex-isle girl, 2 others, died in prison
POSTED: Sunday, September 06, 2009
QUESTION: What ever happened to Curtis Dean Anderson, who killed 7-year-old Xiana Fairchild, who lived in Hawaii before moving to Vallejo, Calif., with her mother?
ANSWER: Anderson died in prison of natural causes at age 46 in December 2007 while serving a sentence of more than 300 years for the 1999 molestation and murder of Fairchild and also the 2000 abduction and sexual assault of an 8-year-old Vallejo girl.
A month before he died, Anderson confessed to killing a third child, Amber Swartz-Garcia, 7, who disappeared after going to jump rope outside her Pinole, Calif., home 21 years ago.
Investigators held a news conference in early July to announce they are closing the Swartz-Garcia case after spending 18 months corroborating Anderson's story.
“;Everything that he's done indicates he's the type of person who can do this,”; Pinole Police Chief Paul Clancy said.
Police distributed copies of Anderson's brief handwritten statement that read, “;If there is no pursuit of the death penalty, I will freely admit my role in being responsible for the death of Amber Swartz-Garcia.”;
Anderson told authorities he was driving to Arizona and abducted Amber for company, Clancy said.
“;In a case of tragic timing, Amber was standing in front of her house at the exact moment Anderson randomly drove through her neighborhood,”; Clancy said. “;He opened the car door and pulled her in.”;
