Wie misses cut at Canadian Open

Honolulu's Michelle Wie missed the cut at this week's CN Canadian Open despite shooting a 2-under 69 in yesterday's second round of the LPGA event.

Wie tied for 90th, two shots removed from the cut of 1-over 143. It was the first missed cut for Wie this year.

The Punahou School graduate carded one bogey and three birdies for her round, including one at the par-5 18th. Wie hit 10 of 14 fairways and 11 greens in regulation, averaging 280 yards off the tee. She needed only 27 putts.

The Stanford University sophomore will return to school in three weeks.

UAB blanks Hawaii soccer

Laura McCalla and Emma Smith scored to lead UAB past Hawaii 2-0 last night in the Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Soccer Classic at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.

The tournament continues today when UAB (5-0) takes on Pacific at 7 p.m.

The Rainbow Wahine (1-2-1) play Pacific tomorrow at 5 p.m.

Hawaii-Hilo sweeps Urbana

Josimara Pinheiro had 21 kills and hit .524 yesterday to lead Hawaii-Hilo past Urbana (Ohio) 25-11, 25-10, 25-19 in women's volleyball at Fairbanks, Alaska.

The Vulcans improved to 6-0, and the Blue Knights dropped to 3-3.

Chaminade loses in 5

Cal State East Bay rallied back to defeat Chaminade 25-21, 23-25, 25-27, 26-24, 15-5 yesterday at the California Clash women's volleyball tournament hosted by San Francisco State.

Brianna Bryant had 13 kills to lead the Pioneers (2-3).

Courtney Lorusso had 18 kills and eight digs for the Silverswords (1-3).

HPU drops 5-setter

Cal State Monterey Bay held on to beat Hawaii Pacific 25-19, 25-21, 22-25, 20-25, 15-10 at the California Clash tournament.

Rheann Fall led the Otters (2-2) with match highs in kills (24) and digs (19).

Mariana Souza had 14 kills for the Sea Warriors (2-3).

Seattle Pacific trips BYUH

Seattle Pacific stopped Brigham Young-Hawaii 25-16, 19-25, 25-16, 25-17 at the Central Washington Invitational yesterday.

Jessica Bettencourt led the way for the Falcons (3-5) with 14 kills.

Roseanne Vea knocked down 11 kills and added 19 digs for the Seasiders (3-3).
