Retired Maj. Gen. Alexis Lum will be remembered in a memorial service 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Peace Cathedral on Fort Street Mall.

The former state adjutant general, who fought in three wars, died Sunday. He was 82.

Lum began military ser-vice in World War II in 1945 when he was drafted into the Army. In April 1951 he served as an infantry platoon leader in the Korean War.

He joined the Army National Guard in 1953. When the 29th Brigade was activated in 1968, Lum served as executive officer of the 31st Engineer Battalion in the Vietnam War.

After his retirement from the state and the Army National Guard in 1991, Lum worked as military liaison for U.S. Sen. Daniel Inouye.

Visitation is from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, and Mass will be said at 7 p.m. Graveside services with military honors will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl.
