JACKSONVILLE, Fla. » Washington skipped right over backup quarterback Todd Collins and turned things over to rookie Chase Daniel on the second drive in a 24-17 loss to Jacksonville last night.

Daniel, battling former Hawaii quarterback Colt Brennan for the third-string job, completed eight of 16 passes for 85 yards and a touchdown. He fumbled on Quentin Groves' sack, and Jacksonville scored three plays later.

Brennan was 10 of 14 for 83 yards before leaving the game with a hamstring injury.

Aaron Curry made four tackles, two for losses, hit Oakland quarterbacks twice, then sacked one and forced a fumble to set up a field goal.

And that was just in the first half for the rookie, who was the only projected starter to play for Seattle.
