KHNL-TV reporter Leland Kim was the first of the KHNL/KFVE-TV and KGMB-TV employees being laid off to make the news public, announcing via Twitter and Facebook he was “;officially laid off.”;

He sought job leads and referred to his master's degree and 10-year health care career.

Kim did not volunteer names, but multiple industry sources have said high-profile anchors Howard Dashefsky, Diane Ako and weather anchor Sharie Shima have received 60-day termination notices.

Ako, who has been with KHNL's news department since its inception, began co-anchoring the morning show with Dashefsky in mid-April. Dashefsky has served as an anchor at each network affiliate in Honolulu.

KHNL 5 p.m. weekday anchor Kristine Uyeno and reporter Zahid Arab also are among those who will lose their jobs, as will operations manager Randy Ennis.

Kim was “;sad most of his friends at KHNL/KFVE have been laid off. KGMB is moving in,”; he said.

The three TV stations announced last month they had entered into a shared services agreement that would have KGMB move in to KHNL/KFVE's Waiakamilo Road facilities and would result in a merged newsroom and dozens of job cuts.

On-camera personnel generally have personal services contracts, which Raycom President and Chief Executive Officer Paul McTear has said would be honored.

Kim had not read his exit documents but may have imperiled his severance, as industry sources have said employees who publicly discuss layoffs would lose the pay. He expected his last day to be Nov. 1.

KHNL/KFVE Vice President and General Manager John Fink could not be reached and his soon-to-be counterpart would not “;discuss personnel matters,”; said Rick Blangiardi, president and general manager of KGMB-TV.
