When it mattered most, Mililani's playmakers came through.

Trent McKinney found Dalaunte “;Taz”; Stevenson for the go-ahead touchdown as fifth-ranked Mililani rallied past No. 4 Punahou 16-9 last night at John Kauinana Stadium.

Mililani (3-0) was the more disciplined team, committing only six penalties for 32 yards. Punahou (0-2) was whistled 15 times for 126 yards.

Stabren Caires' 3-yard run around right end gave Punahou a 6-0 lead with 6:11 left in the opening quarter. That capped a three-play, 53-yard drive aided twice by Mililani offside penalties. The key play came on a 36-yard completion from McKinney to Jarren Pestana.

A botched punt play by Punahou gave the home team a big break. The snap sailed over punter Chase Tamashiro, and Mililani's Zach Quines recovered in a pileup at the Buffanblu 23-yard line.

Five plays later, Mililani finally got on the scoreboard on a 1-yard sneak by McKinney. Reid Watanabe's PAT gave the Trojans a 7-6 lead with 2:52 left in the second quarter.

Mililani's passing game was nearly non-existent in the first half, with one completion in six attempts by McKinney. Max Yamagishi and Keenan Fa'atea had sacks for Punahou. However, the junior's scrambling ability posed problems for Punahou.

Punahou quarterbacks Kaiana Eldredge and Liloa Travis had their share of pressure, too. Travis was sacked twice and forced to scramble another two times in the first half.

By intermission, Punahou had 124 total yards to Mililani's 105.

The third quarter was uneventful until James Sanft's hit on McKinney on a keeper forced a fumble. Jordan Honjiyo recovered at the Mililani 19-yard line, setting up a 38-yard field goal by Kaimi Fairbairn — who had missed an extra-point in the first quarter — to give the Buffanblu a 9-7 lead with 11 seconds to go in the third.

On the ensuing drive, a sack by Punahou's DeForest Buckner turned into a gift for Mililani when the linebacker was whistled for face mask. McKinney later scrambled left and found Stevenson wide open for a 30-yard touchdown pass. The Trojans led 14-9 with 7:46 remaining.

The next 22 seconds were a disaster for Punahou. Caires muffed the kickoff, picked the ball up and was stuffed at the 13-yard line. Another illegal procedure call pushed the Buffanblu back before Mililani linebacker Kawika Barabin chased down Eldredge in the end zone for a safety.

Punahou's last possession ended at the Mililani 30-yard line when receiver Jeff Padrina was stopped a yard short on fourth and 6 with 2:56 to go.

Waialua 36, Anuenue 28

After three and a half quarters of trading blows, the Bulldogs finally landed a haymaker.

The visitors, who traveled the length of Oahu to play Anuenue at Kaiser High, got touchdowns on consecutive offensive plays from William Sacapulo-Uepa to Branden Galapia in the fourth quarter to seal a 36-28 win.

Anuenue took a 28-24 lead into the fourth quarter, and the teams traded touchdowns from the opening minutes.

Na Koa were in trouble once the Bulldogs started to seal the middle on Na Koa's deceptive handoffs. They had 39 seconds on their final possession to score from their own 13, but couldn't get anything going.

Sacapulo-Uepa finished with 341 yards passing and three touchdowns, with two to Galapia. Galapia had 210 yards receiving.

Travis Deuz added two scores and 118 rushing yards for the Bulldogs.

Anuenue came up just short of landing the last shot before halftime. Keali‘i Mokiao made a sweet 18-yard cut to get the ball to the Waialua 5 with 3 seconds left, but Na Koa were unable to get the snap off in time for a final play.

The first quarter was packed with spectacular individual plays. The Bulldogs' Deuz exploded up the middle for a 57-yard score on the team's third play from scrimmage.

Na Koa answered with Chase Keli‘ialoha Aki's impressive 26-yard rumble to knot things at 6. The 5-foot-5, 159-pound senior wouldn't be denied, shedding four tackles and dragging a man with him into the end zone.

That's when Sacapulo-Uepa went to work. The 6-foot junior completed three straight passes, the last of which was tipped by an Anuenue defensive back into the opportunistic hands of Pilialoha Tupou, who went the final 25 yards for the score and a 12-6 lead.

Na Koa back Kanani Armitage responded with a 62-yard explosion on Anuenue's next play, befuddling the line and outrunning the Bulldogs secondary to put his team back on top, 14-12.

Deuz tacked on a 2-yard score in the second quarter for a 18-14 Waialua halftime lead.

Waipahu 42, Word of Life 0

Joshua Lecar ran for two first-quarter touchdowns and threw for another to lead the Marauders in a romp over the Firebrands.

Lecar had a 2-yard run with 3:36 left in the first quarter and added a 31-yard scoring run 2 minutes later. He also tossed a 13-yard scoring pass to Jonah Bryant-Carvalho in the second quarter.

Jacob Ioane added two fourth-quarter touchdowns on the ground to provide the final margin for Waipahu.

No. 7 Farrington 20, Roosevelt 17

Seventh-ranked Farrington relied on senior running back Harry Tuimaseve's 17 carries for 97 yards and a score as the Governors held on to beat Roosevelt 20-17 in the Oahu Interscholastic Association Red Conference East opener at Roosevelt's Ticky Vasconcellos Stadium.

After taking a 7-0 lead in the opening quarter on a 38-yard pass from Apollo Faumui to Sammy Park, Farrington added another score on Tuimaseve's 10-yard run.

Roosevelt answered with a 47-yard pass from Matthew Lono-Holani to Agaese Tago midway through the second period. However, Farrington increased its lead to 20-7 on the ensuing play as Scotland Smith returned the kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown.

After Kaina Pena's field goal cut the deficit to 10 points, Lono-Holani and Tago hooked up again for a 15-yard score that trimmed Farrington's lead to three points midway through the fourth quarter. But, after getting the ball back with 57 seconds to play, Roosevelt could not get in scoring position and the Governors escaped with the victory.

Tago finished the contest with a game-high four catches for 106 yards.

No. 9 Castle 37, Kaimuki 9

Shaydon Kehano had three touchdown receptions to lead the host Black Knights over the Bulldogs.

After Castle converted a field goal to open the scoring, Kaimuki rallied briefly with a 54-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and a 22-yard field goal.

Kehano then sparked a scoring spree for Castle, hauling in scoring grabs of 36, 5, and 12 yards from Knight quarterback Jaymason Lee.

Moanalua 34, Radford 33, overtime

The closest of games came down to an extra point.

Radford missed its PAT in the second overtime and Moanalua's Matt Blakely made his as the Menehune came away with a 34-33 win in OIA White play.

Afer both teams failed to score in the first extra session, Phil Hogan scored on a 5-yard run to put Radford (1-1, 1-0) ahead in the second OT. Moanalua's Tahje Canyon ran it in from 4 yards out to knot the game at 33 and Blakely's kick won it for the Menehune.

The Rams overcame a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter on a pair of Doug Brown touchdown passes to force the extra play.

Canyon rushed for 110 yards and two scores to lead Moanalua (1-1, 1-0).
