There is no shying away from tough competition for Hawaii this season. Among the nonconference teams the Rainbow Wahine host at the Stan Sheriff Center are four who finished in the top eight in 2008: No. 2 Stanford, No. 4 Texas, No. 6 Cal and No. 8 UCLA.
Nos. 21 (Saint Louis) and 25 (Santa Clara) also visit, as well as three who finished just finished outside the final Top 25 poll: Western Michigan, New Mexico State and Pepperdine.
Hawaii plays road matches in three time zones and hopes to add a fourth: The final four is in the Eastern at Tampa, Fla.
The pre-set regional sites are hosted by Stanford, Minnesota, Nebrasa and Florida. Where Hawaii ends up for the first and second rounds only the selection gods know.
