Kahuku gets new lights

Concerned football fans on the North Shore can see the light now.

Brand-new football field light poles were laid out on Carleton Weimer Field at Kahuku for some time, leading some fans to wonder whether the team would have home games when the regular season starts.

The six poles were hoisted and installed over the weekend.

“;Our poles are up and everything is hooked up,”; athletic director Joe Whitford said yesterday. “;We'll test them the next couple of days.”;

Hawaii Invitational volleyball this week

Four-time defending state champion Kamehameha has managed to stay under wraps in preseason, but they'll be uncovered at the Hawaii Invitational.

The tourney, hosted by the Warriors, begins Thursday and concludes Saturday. State title contenders Punahou, 'Iolani, Hawaii Baptist, Word of Life, Moanalua and Kamehameha-Hawaii are in the 16-team field.

“;It should be one of our most competitive tournaments to date,”; Kamehameha coach Chris Blake said.

Sueyasu interim AD at Castle

Laynie Sueyasu is the interim athletic director at Castle.

“;It's a very big change. It keeps me up all night, pretty much. Athletics is something I enjoy,”; said Sueyasu, who is a former JV softball head coach and varsity assistant.

She played for Waimea when the Menehunes won the state title under coach Albert Soto in 1990.
