Maui motorcyclist dies after crash in Kahului

A 51-year-old Kahului man died yesterday after he was injured in a motorcycle crash Wednesday evening in Kahului.

Alberto C. Tejeda died at 10:15 a.m. at Maui Memorial Medical Center, police said.

Tejeda was driving a 2003 Harley Davidson, heading west on Papa Place, when he lost control of the motorcycle and hit a curb on Hukilike Street, causing the bike to overturn, police said.

Tejeda was thrown from the motorcycle and taken in critical condition to the hospital.

Police said he was not wearing a helmet.

This was Maui County's 11th motor vehicle fatality for this year compared with 13 the same time last year.

Mother turns in son, 18, in Kalihi bank robbery

A woman turned in her 18-year-old homeless son in connection with a bank robbery that took place in June.

Police caught Dakota M.A. Williams on June 24 driving a stolen car in Kaneohe. He was charged with unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle.

But Williams' mother called police while he was being booked and said she recognized him from a newspaper article featuring his photo taken from video surveillance at the Kalihi branch of Bank of Hawaii.

Williams was arrested June 25 on suspicion of second-degree robbery for the bank heist.

On Wednesday, while at the Oahu Community Correctional Center on the vehicle charge, he was rearrested and charged by federal authorities with bank robbery. Williams is now being held without bail.

Makiki woman arrested in razor blade attack

A 32-year-old Makiki woman turned herself in to police yesterday for allegedly cutting a 39-year-old woman's face while hitting her with a razor blade.

Police said the younger woman slapped the victim while holding a razor blade between her fingers, police said.

The woman was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault in the Aug. 10 incident.

Man pleads not guilty in shooting

A man pleaded not guilty in Circuit Court to charges stemming from a shooting that occurred in McCully earlier this year.

Tariq Holloway appeared yesterday before Judge Richard Perkins on charges of attempted second-degree murder, first-degree robbery and a firearm offense.

On May 14, Holloway allegedly got into another man's car, pointed a handgun at him and told him to drive. He shot the victim twice before the car stopped at Fern and Hoawa streets, where Holloway ran away.

A week later, police in Chicago arrested Holloway.

The victim, 24, was last reported to be recovering from his gunshot wounds.

Holloway is being held in lieu of $10 million bail. His trial is scheduled to begin Oct. 19.
