Events celebrate statehood

Events marking the 50th anniversary of statehood tomorrow:

» “;New Horizons for the Next 50 Years,”; public conference sponsored by the 50th Anniversary of Statehood Commission. With workshops, keynote speakers, exhibit pavilions (8 a.m.-5:30 p.m.), a concert (7 p.m.) and fireworks (9 p.m.) Hawaii Convention Center. » “;Mai Poina”; walking tour to re-enact events leading to the overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy, starting in front of the Hawaii State Library at 5, 5:30 and 6 p.m. For reservations call the Friends of Iolani Palace at 294-8638.

» Chanters will commemorate the overthrow of Queen Liliuokalani with new and old oli, including lamentations recorded in Hawaiian newspapers at the time of the overthrow. Iolani Palace, 6:30 p.m.
