When Delvin Eugene Kelley arrived Saturday afternoon at the Mililani doorstep of his 25-year-old ex-girlfriend demanding a laptop computer, her roommate turned him away.

But when Kelley returned, pounding on the door and yelling, “;Police,”; the roommate opened the door, according to a police affidavit.

Kelley forced his way into the apartment holding a knife, and found his ex-girlfriend in the living room. He grabbed her phone and bag, then demanded his laptop, police said.

The two struggled, and she tried to push him out of the apartment, police said. At one point, she grabbed his shirt when she thought he had punched her, only to realize she had been stabbed two to three times.

Kelley left her bleeding near the doorway of the apartment, the affidavit said.

The woman's roommate and another friend who was at the apartment tried to intervene, at one point throwing soda cans to disarm Kelley, but kept their distance due to the folding knife he was holding.

The girlfriend was taken to the Queen's Medical Center in serious condition with stab wounds to her chest, back and arms. Police said her injuries posed a substantial risk of death.

Police recovered a folding knife in a grassy area fronting the parking lot.

After a CrimeStoppers bulletin went out for his arrest, Kelley called police and turned himself in Aug. 17.

Authorities charged Kelley on Tuesday night with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree burglary and first-degree robbery. His bail was set at $100,000.
