Man is arrested in stabbing

Police arrested a man yesterday wanted in the attempted murder of his ex-girlfriend.

The man was arrested at 1 p.m. at the main police station on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder, first-degree burglary and a contempt warrant.

He was convicted July 2 of promoting a detrimental drug, a petty misdemeanor, and was sentenced to two days' confinement.

He allegedly stabbed the woman several times Saturday at a Waikalani Place apartment.

Maui cyclist is hurt in crash

A 48-year-old Lahaina man suffered head injuries Sunday night when the motorcycle he was driving collided with a car.

Maui police said the accident occurred at 8:40 p.m. at Wainee and Dickenson streets in Lahaina. The motorcyclist was traveling north on Wainee when he ran a stop sign and was hit by a silver four-door sedan. He was not wearing a helmet and was taken to a local hospital.

The driver of the sedan, a 62-year-old woman from Kaneohe, was not injured.

Hiker falls at Kolekole Pass

A man was seriously injured today after falling nearly 100 feet off a cliff and into a tree below.

He was one of three people hiking a spur trail near Lualualei Naval Road to reach Peacock Flats in Mokuleia. While passing through Kolekole Pass, the man lost his footing and fell from the trail.

Fire Department Capt. Terry Seelig said responders received a call at 2:11 p.m. and were about to airlift the man to Schofield Barracks around 4:15 p.m.

Emergency Medical Services spokesman Bryan Cheplic said the man, “;in his 20s,”; was taken in serious condition to the Queen's Medical Center trauma center.

Kauai woman told to halt securities sale

A Kauai woman has been ordered to stop selling unregistered securities.

State Commissioner of Securities Tung Chan has issued a preliminary cease and desist order against Leigh K. Matsuyoshi, who does business as L.K. Matsuyoshi Inc. of Lihue.

The order alleges Matsuyoshi sold unregistered securities in the form of investment contracts to Hawaii investors totaling more than $1 million. It also accuses her of using more than $400,000 of client money from the investments to pay her credit card debt.

Telephone numbers for Matsuyoshi and the company could not be located.

Chan alleges Matsuyoshi violated the state's securities registration and anti-fraud provisions. The state is seeking a civil penalty of $500,000.

Woman found dead outside Kauai apartment

Kauai police found the body of a 27-year-old woman today outside of her apartment complex in Puhi. Police said the woman’s body was found at 7:03 a.m. at the Manawalea Street apartment complex. Police looking for missing girl who has serious medical condition

Police are asking for help in finding a missing 14-year-old Waianae girl who has a serious medical condition. Police said Summer Mahoe-Kapele was last seen at about 8 a.m. Thursday after being dropped off at a Waianae school. Mahoe-Kapele has a serious medical condition, requiring daily medication, police said. She is described as Hawaiian, 5-feet 3-inches tall, 140 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
