» Hale Kipa received $500,000 from the Hau'oli Mau Loa Foundation to further educational programs and support its programs for at-risk youth and their families.

» The Aloha United Way's Society of Young Leaders collected and donated more than $5,450 worth of new and gently used children's books to Read-to-Me International, PATCH, Family Programs of Hawaii, Hawaii Literacy, and HUGS (Help, Understanding and Group Support).

Donors included Borders Windward Mall, Hawaii Medical Service Association, Grace Pacific Corp., Hawaiian Telcom, Hawaii Prince Hotel and Waipahu resident Frank Amorozo.
