Family to fight eviction for Hawaii Kai project

The 22-year-old daughter of a Koko Head rancher and her family said today they'll fight to the bitter end against eviction by the Bishop Estate and Henry J. Kaiser's Hawaii-Kai development.

The girl is Doris Dias, whose parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Dias, and family, are to be evicted Saturday from their home off Kalanianaole Highway.

Bishop Estate spokesmen say the Dias family is unlawfully occupying the place and that the family has been given more than adequate notice to move.

The 12-member Dias family was served a 30-day notice on May 31 to vacate.

The Bishop Estate offered to relocate the family in the Kamiloiki Area on either of two lots, each with a dwelling and one containing two acres, the other 1.4 acres.

Dias, the estate said, filled out applications for these lots but made no attempt to move onto them.

The Dias's present lease-hold property is near Sandy Beach and includes 114 acres near the Federal Aviation Authority's receiving station located near the Makapuu Point lighthouse.

Doris Dias says the family's feud with the estate and Kaiser has been going on for three years and has resulted in poor health for her parents.

“;That leaves me to carry on the brunt of the upcoming battle,”; she said.
