Marzo advances in Mexico
Maui's Clay Marzo won the first heat in yesterday's Quiksilver Puerto Escondido Pro event in Mexico to advance to the round of 32.
Marzo scored a 15.50 in conditions reminiscent of waves on his home island.
“;I'm only doing a few QS events, and this one was the one I really wanted to do,”; Marzo said. “;This is my second time to Puerto and I like it here, the waves are similar to home.”;
Marzo was the only local surfer to reach the third round yesterday. Round 2 continues today, waves permitting.
Penn eyes bout with sanchez
HILO » UFC lightweight champion B.J. Penn says he'll go for a third title defense soon.
Penn told the Hawaii Tribune-Herald that he'll talk with UFC President Dana White this week about his next bout against Diego “;Nightmare”; Sanchez, which could come in a couple of months.
Penn is home in Hilo after a fourth-round victory last weekend over Kenny Florian in Philadelphia. Penn earned $250,000 in the win, plus a taste of the pay-per-view take.
Penn, 30, says he would like a rematch against UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, but is focusing on Sanchez.
