Question: Why does the Hawaiian Humane Society trap cats in the community?
Answer: Typically it's homeowners, businesses and property managers that actively trap feral cats. The Humane Society loans traps and provides free spay and neuter services for feral cats, which are paid for by community donations.
Those who trap cats have an opportunity to help these animals with a Trap, Neuter, Return and Manage (TNRM) program that offers guidelines on how to live harmoniously with feral cats in the community, reduce the population and care for them in their own environment.
It's also important to note that a stray cat being trapped may be someone's lost cat and may not actually be feral.
