Central Maui ousted in regional
Northern California defeated Central Maui 5-3 in pool play at the Little League West Regional at San Bernardino, Calif., yesterday.
The loss eliminated Central Maui (1-3) from the tournament.
Northern California, Southern California, Nevada and Arizona advanced to today's semifinals. The tournament winner advances to the Little League World Series Aug. 21-30.
Dugas captures assistant pro title
Eric Dugas of Kuki'o Golf and Beach Club finished at 7-under 137 for a seven-shot win yesterday over Regan Lee of Pearl Country Club to win the Callaway Golf PGA Assistant Pro Championship at Ko Olina Golf Club.
Dugas followed up his 6-under 66 on Tuesday with a 1-under 71 yesterday.
Dugas and Lee earned the two spots in the upcoming national championship, Oct. 1-4 at Port St. Lucie, Fla.
Matsui, Kim win at Pearl
Honolulu's Shigeru Matsui shot an even-par 72 yesterday at Pearl Country Club to win the USGA Senior Amateur Qualifier.
Matsui moves on to the national championship, Sept. 12-17 in Chicago.
On the women's side, Honolulu's Bev Kim shot 83 to qualify for the national championship Sept. 12-17 in Virginia. Chaok Merkle is the first alternate after finishing a stroke behind Kim.
UH conducting fundraiser
Hawaii has launched a “;Serving Up 1,000”; campaign in anticipation of Rainbow Wahine volleyball coach Dave Shoji's 1,000th career victory.
Entering his 35th season at UH, Shoji is 16 wins away from becoming just the second Division I women's volleyball coach to reach 1,000 wins.
