Seymour blazes in triathlon

Chad Seymour jumped out to a huge lead with a 9-minute swim and cruised to a win in the XTERRA MountainMan Triathlon at Kualoa Ranch yesterday.

Seymour finished the triathlon in 1 hour, 14 minutes and 33 seconds, nearly a minute ahead of second-place finisher Jimmy Davis. Richard Cochrane was third.

Amy Eck won the women's race with a time of 1:28:35. Patricia Havey finished second at 1:33:37.

Pascual pitches Movers to title

Chris Pascual pitched 7 2/3 scoreless innings in relief to help the Hawaii Island Movers over Sendai 4-3 in the championship game of the International Tournament.

Pascual entered the game in relief of starter Kevin Matsumoto, who allowed three runs while getting only one out before getting the hook.

Pascual allowed only three hits and struck out six batters while walking two.

Maui mashed in regional game

Central Maui ran into a buzz saw in its second game of the Little League West Region tournament yesterday, falling to Southern California 15-2.

Maui is now 0-2 in pool play and will play Utah tomorrow.

Southern California hit eight homers off Maui pitchers and have hit 16 home runs in their last two games. They have outscored opponents 42-3.

Maui was limited to three hits in the game, but one of them was a home run by Joshua Nobriga.

Kailua coming home

Jared Matsumoto had three hits but Kailua bowed out of the American Legion Western Regional yesterday.

Kailua lost 10-4 to Fairfield in the semifinals. Ryan McMonigle collected a pair of hits for Kailua and Alan Baldwin scored a pair of runs. Bryson Dymond took the loss.
