Coast Guard helicopter saves kayakers off Molokai
A U.S. Coast Guard rescue helicopter airlifted two men from an overturned kayak off Molokai yesterday.
According to a news release, the kayakers, who were wearing life jackets, radioed the Coast Guard at about noon after their kayak capsized about 100 yards off Kalaupapa.
A HH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Barbers Point arrived on scene, hoisted the two men aboard and flew them to emergency medical service personnel on Molokai. No injuries were reported.
55-year-old man arrested in sexual assault of 2 girls
Police have arrested a 55-year-old Waipio man who allegedly sexually assaulted two girls over a two-year period.
Police said the girls, ages 12 and 8, reported that the man had sexually assaulted them from Oct. 19, 2006, to Dec. 25, 2008, at homes in Ewa Beach and Waipahu.
Police located the man at his home Wednesday and arrested him on suspicion of three counts of first-degree sexual assault and one count of third-degree sexual assault.
Suspect accused of assault turns himself in to police
Police arrested a 25-year-old Manoa man who allegedly assaulted a 51-year-old man at a Honolulu nightclub last year.
The older man told police that the younger man allegedly punched him in the face while he was holding a glass. The victim received cuts under his eye, causing substantial bodily injury, police said.
Police informed the suspect that there was probable cause for his arrest, and he turned himself in at the main police station, where he was arrested yesterday morning on suspicion of second-degree assault. He was later released pending further investigation.
