Forty-year-old Wendy Danielle Davis was more than just a math teacher at Mililani High School.

“;Her connection to the students was really genuine,”; and she often spent two to three hours after school tutoring students, said 10th-grade Vice Principal Fred Murphy of Mililani High School. “;Students looked to her for math guidance, but they saw her as a friend and mentor.

“;Teaching is all about relationships and she got that,”; he said.

Davis died Friday from head injuries sustained in a July 14 accident when she was struck by a car while jogging in Mililani, the Medical Examiner's Office and police said.

The school held a moment of silence in memory of Davis on Monday and offered additional counselors for those who needed to talk, Principal John Brummel said.

Brummel described Davis as a dedicated teacher who had been with the school's math department for about 15 years.

Murphy said of himself and colleagues of Davis, “;You can't help but become close, and we all feel the pain and loss.”;

Davis was critically injured when she was struck by a car at Meheula Parkway and Kuahelani Avenue. Police said Davis was in a crosswalk when she was hit. The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, did not see her, police said.

Davis, of Mililani, was taken in critical condition to the Queen's Medical Center following the 5:30 p.m. accident.

The driver was not arrested, but police have reclassified the case to a negligent homicide from a negligent injury. The case is pending further investigation.
