Mark Smith, a sixth-grade math and English teacher at Lahaina Intermediate School for the past 10 years, was named the April Educator of the Month by Leilani's on the Beach and awarded a $100 gift certificate.

Dole Plantation raised $10,000 for the Waialua High School Robotics Team through its second Robotics Luau 2009 benefit. The company also gave the team $10,000 last year.

The Punahele Chapter of the American Business Women's Association awarded scholarships to Jiane Hoohuli of Nanakuli High & Intermediate School; Jayginaleen Ifenuk of Kalaheo; and Christina Micua of Campbell.

Imua Family Services was given $2,000 by The Alexander & Baldwin Foundation to support Camp Imua, a weeklong, overnight recreational camp for 50 of Maui's children with special needs.
