'Jackie O' sunglasses are back

Kimono show

The Japanese Women's Society Foundation and Hakubi Kimono School of Japan will present a show of kimono Sunday at the Sheraton Waikiki for the JWSF's 55th annual fashion show.

Doors will open at 10:30 a.m., with the kimono show at 11 a.m., followed by 12:30 p.m. lunch.

“;Habuki”; means “;the best,”; and the school's president, Takayoshi Mizushima, will attend. He founded the school to keep the artistic and cultural traditions of Japan alive with a new generation.

The school promotes cultural interchanges and goodwill through what they call a “;New Silk Road”; for global peace.

Architects announce design award winners

The American Institute of Architects, Honolulu Chapter (AIA Honolulu) announced the 51st Annual Design Awards winners for 2009 during a gala celebration in June at the Hawaii Prince Hotel.

Nominated projects were submitted by local AIA member-architects. All may be viewed online at http://www.aiahonolulu.org/ peopleschoice.

The People's Choice Award allowed the public to vote for its favorite of 32 entrants in the completed projects category through the AIA Honolulu Web site. More than 500 votes were cast this year.
