SALT LAKE CITY » With the University of Hawaii facing a steep budget deficit, Warriors football coach Greg McMackin said he's willing to accept a cut in pay.

“;I've always been a team player and I will give my fair share on behalf of the football program,”; McMackin said in a statement.

McMackin signed a five-year contract for $1.1 million annually when hired as head coach in January 2008, making him the state's highest-paid employee. McMackin said he has not been asked to take a pay reduction.

The UH system faces a budget shortfall of $155 million over the next two years. The Manoa campus is bracing for $48.8 million in cuts this fiscal year.

UH athletic director Jim Donovan has accepted a voluntary 7 percent pay cut. Associate athletic directors and coaches may have to take pay cuts as well.
