5-course dinner offers select wines

Beachhouse at the Moana will offer a five-course dinner pairing featuring 10 boutique wines and winemakers from various vineyards.

Steve Storrs of Storrs Winery, Greg Gauthier of Gauthier Cellars and Joe Cafaro of Cafaro Cellars are among those who will meet diners at the Aug. 6 dinner.

The menu: Gruet Brut NV will be served during the reception; Atlantic salmon tartare will be paired with Storrs “;Viento Vineyard”; Gewurztraminer 2007 and Sauthier “;Salaal Vineyard”; Sauvignon Blanc 2007; Hamakua mushroom and escargot with Zaca Mesa Rousanne 2006 and Robert Stemmler Pinot Noir Carneros “;Estate”; 2005; Australian lamb chop with Cafaro “;Napa Valley”; Merlot 2005 and Beachouse “;Napa Valley”; Cabernet Sauvignon 2006; Australian Wagyu Striploin with L'Aventure “;Optimus”; 2006 and Venge Vineyards Scout's Honor 2006; and Kona chocolate spring rolls with Solera 1847 Oloroso Sherry and Noe Pedro Ximenez Sherry.

The restaurant is located at the Moana Hotel, 2365 Kalakaua Ave.

Reception is at 6 p.m.; dinner at 6:30. Cost is $75. Seating is limited; call 921-4600.

3660 on the Rise preps for 'Bash'

Believe it or not, summer's soon to be on its way out, and 3660 on the Rise is commemorating the season with a pau hana “;Summer Bash”; dinner, complete with a special menu, special drink prices and music.

On Aug. 7, diners can visit food stations offering char siu with steamed buns, prime rib with taro rolls, salt & pepper shrimp, buffalo wings, seafood tortellini, sausage with peppers, meatballs mozzarella, a salad bar, desserts and more.

Cost is $30 plus tax and gratuity. Draft beer specials include $2 Coors and $3 Heineken.

The dinner starts at 5:30 p.m.; food stations will be open through 7:30 and festivities continue through 8:30.

Lasagna Day equals free taste

Celebrate National Lasagna Day at Buca di Beppo today with a free piece of lasagna.

Customers get customization

Beginning Saturday, Halekulani will take reservations for TABLE ONE, a customized dining service featuring cuisine by executive chef Vikram Garg. The “;restaurant within a restaurant”; service launches on Aug. 15.

Guests in groups of four to six can enjoy five- or seven-course dinners that are tailor-made according to their preferences. Dinners are held in the atrium of Orchids restaurant.

Five-course tasting menus cost $95, with seven courses at $125; two-tier wine pairings are also available. Garg requires 48-hour advance reservations.

Seatings are at 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays to Saturdays. Lunch service is available upon request. For reservations, call 923-2311.

Haleiwa unveils Mexi Grindz

Haleiwa will celebrate the opening of a new Mexican restaurant on Saturday. Aunti's DaKine Mexi Grindz boasts not just its Mexican fare, but its green efforts as well. The eatery will utilize only biodegradable utensils.

During the opening, visitors can enjoy live music by Terry Stebbins from 4 to 8 p.m. and watch art in progress from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. by 808-Urban, an organization that steers youth away from graffiti and tagging and toward producing murals instead. Artists will produce a 25-by-11-foot mural depicting underwater pollution to draw attention to caring for the ocean and sea life.

At 7 p.m. the restaurant will screen locally filmed surf flicks. Food will be served from noon to 10 p.m. Call 690-2642.

Wine tastings set for mid-August

Two very different wine tastings will be held next month:

» On Aug. 12, Roy's Restaurant in Hawaii Kai will present 20 leading winemakers from across the country showcasing 90 wines. The tasting will also feature pupu pairings by Roy's chefs.

Among winemakers attending are Milla Handley of Handley Cellars, Patrick S. Wilson of Karma Fine Beverages, Alan Jahns of Babcock Vineyards, David Graves of Saintsbury, Susie Selby of Selby Winery and Mike Lokaysek of Dark Horse.

» “;A Night with Bruce Neyers,”; hosted by master sommelier Chuck Furuya, features the Napa Valley, Calif., winemaker, whose Neyers label he describes as “;one of the three best wine producers out of the Napa Valley.”; Neyers is also sales manager for Kermit Lynch Wine Merchants.

Neyers will be at Vino Italian Tapas & Wine Bar for two events on Aug. 15: a 5:30 p.m. wine tasting and 7:30 p.m. dinner pairing with the cuisine of Vino chef Keith Endo.

The tasting will feature a 2006 Zinfandel “;Pato Vineyard,”; 2005 Syrah “;Old Lakeville Road,”; 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon “;AME,”; 2006 Chardonnay “;Il Novillero”; and 2006 Chardonnay “;Thieriot Vineyard.”; Cost is $45.

The dinner will feature three wines from Kermit Lynch. Call for pricing and menu items.
