Mangos sweeten the stay at Makaha
The Makaha Resort & Golf Club and the Waianae Coast Coalition are hosting the second annual Makaha Mango Festival from noon to 7 p.m. Aug. 2 at the Makaha Resort & Golf Club. Admission is free.
The festival will include a mango contest, a recipe contest, children's activities, a trade show and mango workshops. There will also be a mango tasting and happy hour featuring mango-flavored drinks and pupu. The event will culminate with a special mango dinner at the resort with entertainment by Marlene Sai and Hapa.
The resort is offering a special rate for the event of $99 per night plus tax, plus a $30 resort credit applicable to the Pro Shop or food and beverage purchases.

Guests will get hotel's birthday gifts
The Aston Waikiki Beach Tower will celebrate its 25th anniversary this year not by accepting gifts, but by giving them away to guests.
The gifts will include a $2,500 shopping spree at luxury retailer Neiman Marcus for one lucky guest. The winning guest will be surprised at check-in. To qualify, the guest must stay at the condominium resort during its celebratory months of October and November.
Every 25th registered guest will receive a custom Martin & MacArthur Hawaiian Koa wood platter valued at more than $500. The round platter includes a stand so it can also be displayed upright to show off its grain and colors.
During the celebration, no one will go home empty-handed. Upon check-in each traveling party (one gift per room) will be presented with a handcrafted Martin & MacArthur Koa wood wine stopper and corkscrew set.
