Trio of artists offer creations keyed to sunny days of summer
A summer-themed show for the season holds court at Second Floor@Cedar Street Galleries through Aug. 16. Laura Smith, Jennifer Callejo and Maile Yawata offer up works in three distinct styles using different media, yet all possess a feel of summer.
Smith's reduction woodcut prints center on the theme of water and swimming, while Yawata's sculptures feature people and animals in vivid color with engaging expressions. Altogether, it's a rather sunny collection.
Callejo's drawings feature a “;nice fox”;; she says the works were inspired by a song that appeals to a fox “;not to do what they are wont to”;: “;Nice fox, don't tempt the old owl in the tree, stay out of the busy street.”;
Cedar Street Galleries is located at 817 Cedar St. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, and until 4 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. Call 589-1580 or visit www.cedarstreetgalleries.com.
