Help make Magic Island safe for soles

The Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project wants you!

It needs volunteers today at Magic Island to join in a two-hour beach cleanup, followed by some food and frolicking at Tiki's Grill & Bar.

The cleanup project will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. today. The Barefoot Celebration is set afterward from 6 to 8 p.m. at Tiki's, at 2570 Kalakaua Ave.

The Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project, now in its third year, makes beaches and lakes across America “;barefoot friendly.”;

In celebration of Surfrider Foundation's 25th anniversary, Barefoot Wine, Surfrider Foundation and community volunteers are embarking on a tour of 25 cleanups nationwide, including Magic Island.

Baryshnikov to perform here

Tickets go on sale today for “;Three Solos and a Duet,”; a show by ballet legend Mikhail Baryshnikov and Ana Laguna.

The couple will perform “;Place,”; a dance created for them by Mats Ek, and “;Solo for Two.”; Then Baryshnikov will do a solo by Alexei Ratmansky, former artistic director of the Bolshoi Ballet, and another solo by Benjamin Millepied, first soloist at the New York City Ballet.

The performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 12 and 2 p.m. Sept. 13 at Hawaii Theatre.

Get tips on how to age gracefully

Aging. We're all doing it. No one can avoid it. But, can we do it gracefully?

Emmet White, president and CEO of Arcadia and chairman of the Hawaii Long Term Care Association, will give tips on active retirement living options, and where to acquire different levels of health and day care. There will also be a question-and-answer period.
