Micronesians United, a non-profit organization, gave its inaugural Cwislyn Walter Memorial Scholarships to students Rieko Titong and Gracetena Simionesitena of Farrington High School.



The Wahiawa Lions Club presented its annual $500 scholarships to Leilehua High School seniors Bret Watanuki, Micah Kunioka, Anthony Malabanan, and Zakry Akagi-Bustin. Ji Yun Arakawa received the $600 Special Wahiawa Lion Sheri Bentley Scholarship.



Sonya Blevins, a Hawaii Pacific University assistant professor of nursing, received the 2009 Trustees' Award for Teaching Excellence.



The Institute for Human Services Hawaii received $10,000 from the First Hawaiian Bank Foundation to support a nursing co-op in its Health Services Program.
