Maekawa wins Publinx match

Honokaa graduate Sean Maekawa won his first match-play contest, but former Hawaii golfer Ryan Perez did not at yesterday's U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship in Norman, Okla.

Maekawa, an incoming junior at Oregon, defeated Robert Hoadly of North Carolina 4 and 3. The Paauilo resident plays Lion Kim of Michigan in today's second round .

Perez, from Ewa Beach, fell to Luke Guthrie of Illinois 2 up.

 

Paniolos fall to Aliis in HCBL

The Hawaii Aliis rode Johnathan Erb's two-run triple in the third and a combined five-hitter by three pitchers to down the Kamuela Paniolos 8-2 in a Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League game at Central Oahu Regional Park yesterday.

 

UH ticket promo includes dinner

Fans who purchase season tickets for Hawaii men's volleyball or women's basketball at tonight's “;Meet The Coaches”; will receive a barbecue chicken dinner and polo shirt.

The event is scheduled from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at Murphy's Bar and Grill on Merchant Street. Food and beverages will be available for purchase for those not buying season tickets.

New Warriors volleyball coach Charlie Wade and Rainbow Wahine basketball coach Dana Takahara-Dias and their staffs will be in attendance.

HPU soccer adds Sanchez

Ricco Sanchez, a defender from Highline (Wash.) Community College, has signed to play soccer for Hawaii Pacific.

Sanchez was a two-time all-league selection and helped the Thunderbirds to a 14-1-3 record last season. Sanchez's HCC coach was former Sea Warriors player Jason Prenovost.
