» Shane Victorino (St. Anthony) earned 15.6 million fan votes over a period of four days to give him the final spot on the National League All-Star roster. The centerfielder beat out runner-up Pablo Sandoval of the Giants, Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp, Cristian Guzman of the Nationals and Diamondbacks third baseman Mark Reynolds. Victorino is hitting .314 in 341 at-bats with the Phillies this year.
» Kurt Suzuki (Baldwin) is in the midst of an eight-game hitting streak, going 12-for-33 (.364), but with only two extra base hits and four RBIs. Suzuki went 3-for-5 against Boston on Wednesday, making him the second player since 1954 to hit safely in all 18 of his career games against the Red Sox, according to Yahoo! Sports.
» Tyler Yates (Kauai) has begun a throwing program at the Pirates' spring-training facility in Bradenton, Fla. Yates told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on Wednesday that he expects to return to the big leagues in two or three weeks.
» Kila Ka'aihue ('Iolani) is second in the Triple-A Pacific Coast League with 64 walks. The power-hitting first-baseman has 13 home runs this season, but just one in his last 10 games playing for Omaha.
» The Kansas City Royals organization dealt pitchers Derrick Saito (Baldwin) and Danny Cortes to the Seattle Mariners for major-league shortstop Yuniesky Betancourt on Friday. Saito, a diminutive left-handed flamethrower, racked-up 53 strikeouts in 52 innings playing for the Royals' Single-A affiliate, Burlington, in the Midwest League. He'll join Hawaii product Kris Sanchez in Single-A Clinton.
» Vinny Catricala (Hawaii) is getting accustomed to minor league pitching. After hitting .148 in his first seven minor league games in June, the right-handed third baseman is 13-for-36 (.361) in nine games in July playing for the Pulaski Mariners in the Rookie Appalachian League, with two home runs and six RBIs.
