Stanley shines in U.S. loss to Italy

Former Hawaii opposite Clay Stanley had a team-high 16 points, but it wasn't enough, as the U.S. fell to Italy 20-25, 25-20, 25-22, 26-24 in an FIVB World League match last night in Hoffman Estates, Ill.

Stanley had 15 kills and an ace for the U.S. (6-3). The teams meet again today.

Friesen fares well in WUG diving

Hawaii diver Emma Friesen had two top-10 finishes at the FISU World University Games in Belgrade, Serbia.

Friesen, competing for Canada, was sixth in the 1-meter event and teamed with Lacey Truelove for fifth in the 3-meter synchronized diving. Friesen also was 13th in the 3-meter event.

Paddlers drop Aliis in HCBL

The Oahu Paddlers took advantage of four bases-loaded situations to score four runs in the bottom of the first en route to a 6-2 win over the Kauai Aliis in a Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League game yesterday at Mililani High School.

Paul Politi and Keola Kaluhiokalani had RBI singles, while Dane Nielson scored on a bases-loaded walk and Politi on a wild pitch to put the Paddlers ahead for good.

In another HCBL game, the Waikiki Surfers scored the deciding runs in a three-run seventh to defeat the Kamuela Paniolos 6-3.

Allen hosting 2 volleyball camps

Former Hawaii All-American Allen Allen is holding two volleyball camps later this month.

The July 23 camp is at Kalaheo High for a $25 fee. Age-group sessions are 10-14 from noon until 2 p.m., and 16-18 at 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

The July 24 camp is at Seabury Hall, with fees ranging from $30 to $40. Sessions are at 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for grades 7 through 12, and 2 to 4 p.m. for grades 3 through 6.
