Update: In September 2009, Derek V. States was granted a deferral of his no contest plea to theft in the second degree. The judge placed him under court supervision for five years, but granted an early termination of the supervision and dismissed the case in March 2012.

The U.S. Marshals Service announced yesterday the capture of 237 fugitives across the state during the month of June.

Deputy U.S. marshals, other federal, state and local law enforcement officers formed four arrest teams and captured fugitives wanted for various crimes, including 12 sex offenders.

This was the fifth fugitive roundup called Operation FALCON (Federal and Local Cops Organized Nationally). The effort involved 113 law enforcement officers and was hailed by the marshals service as a success.

Each local officer was sworn in as a special deputy U.S. marshal, empowering them to cross jurisdictional lines to track down the fugitives.

In addition to the 237 arrests in Hawaii, U.S. marshals found a fugitive in Bangkok who was on the run for nine years.

Derek Vaughn States, wanted by Honolulu police, was indicted on charges of money laundering, theft and prohibited securities practices, and apprehended by Thai officials.

U.S. Marshals netted more than 200 criminals in Hawaii last month during Operation Falcon.

The participating agencies include the state Department of Public Safety, Sheriff's Division; Department of Human Services, Investigations Office; each of the county police departments; Immigration and Customs Enforcement; Diplomatic Security Service; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; Naval Criminal Investigation Services; U.S. Coast Guard Investigative Services; and Drug Enforcement Administration.

Operation FALCON has made more than 91,000 arrests nationwide since it began in 2005.
