An 80-year-old Hawaii woman who won $1.3 million at a Minnesota casino has fallen ill.
Rebecca Berry won the money at the Mystic Lake Casino in Prior Lake, Minn., near where her daughters live. She has been a secretary for senior U.S. District Judge Samuel King for more than 50 years and intended to finally retire with her new fortunes.
But a statement yesterday from the judge's office said Berry has been hospitalized in Minnesota after a medical emergency. She was in stable condition in the intensive care unit.
“;Rebecca's family thanks all of you for your congratulations,”; said the statement from King's office. “;They do, however, have some news of concern to temper the excitement. Several hours after her win, Rebecca had an unexpected medical emergency. She is stable but in intensive care at a Minneapolis hospital. Her family will be able to provide more information later. They ask that you send good thoughts and prayers for a quick recovery.”;
Berry won the jackpot after playing the same progressive slot machine for many hours.
