Gunshot shatters city bus windshield

Police were searching for a suspect who apparently fired a gun at a city bus Saturday in Waianae.

At 7:13 p.m. a bullet apparently hit the windshield of the bus on Waianae Valley Road, police said. The bullet did not enter the bus, which was carrying five passengers.

Police determined the mark of impact on the windshield was caused by a bullet and not a rock.

Glass shards flew into the 50-year-old driver's face, but he was not injured. Police opened a second-degree attempted murder investigation.

Grounding prompts threat from teen

Police arrested a 17-year-old Kaneohe girl Saturday who allegedly threatened to kill an older family member after she was grounded.

At about 6:15 p.m. the girl hit the victim, a 56-year-old woman, two times after she lost her privileges and then picked up a knife and threatened to kill her, police said.

Another family member took the knife away, police said. The girl was booked on suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening and abuse.

Work furlough escapee captured

Police arrested a 31-year-old man Wednesday who escaped over a fence from the Laumaka Work Furlough program on June 19.

Police dispatch said an all-points bulletin had gone out Wednesday afternoon for an escapee spotted on the bike path behind Waipahu High School.

Silverio Gallegos Jr. was serving the end of his sentence for robbery and drug convictions when he escaped, a Department of Public Safety official said.

Police arrested Gallegos at 4:25 p.m. in Waipahu on Poailani Circle.
