2Couture has started its search for Hawaii's Most Beautiful Man for 2009. The contest will entail aloha wear, swimsuit and date wear stage presentations. The winner will receive a cash price and magazine modeling gigs. Search for smiley faces

        Local residents can submit their smiley-face photographs for the Star-Bulletin's Hawaii Smiley Contest. E-mail entries to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) by July 14.

The top entries will be published in a future issue of the Star-Bulletin, and all entries might be posted on Ruth Kaiser's www.spontaneoussmiley.com Web site. The top three winners will receive T-shirts bearing their winning entry.

Hot spots for the arts abound next weekend

Saturday's a busy day for families who love the arts. Second Saturday at the Hawaii State Art Museum features both activities and demonstrations, while the Contemporary Museum's annual ArtSpree community day showcases visual and performing art. Families can make a day of it and visit both.

Hawaii Quilt Guild will hold hands-on learning activities and quilting demos from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the museum's front lawn. The event is free. The Hawaii State Art Museum is located at 250 S. Hotel St. Call 586-0900.

At the 16th annual ArtSpree, the free festivities run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the museum's picturesque Makiki Heights site.

Among art activities is a giant mural upon which children may contribute their art, flower arranging, clay activities, sculpture-making using recycled materials and a demo and hands-on activity by artist-in-residence Michael Arcega, who is installing a site-specific sculpture in the museum gardens. Professor Grandpoli will present floating and gliding gadgets, such as a tube that glides through the air, and the face-painting booth will offer botanical body painting in honor of the museum's latest exhibit of floral art by Yoshihiro Suda.

Performers this year include aerialists Samadhi Hawaii, Loco Moco the clown, the national award-winning Youth Speaks Hawaii Slam Poetry Team, Shakti Dance Movement, synchronized swimming by Mermaids Hawaii and improv comedy by On the Spot. Plus, music by Les Peetz and Rachel Gonzales, ukulele duo TJ and Micah and pianists Randy Ruff and Max Bergmanis.

All galleries will be open. The museum cafe will also be open from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and reservations are strongly recommended; call 523-3362. » Glass collectors can hear a lecture by Stephen P. Koob about “;The Conservation and Care of Glass Objects,”; 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Shangri La. Koob will discuss cleaning, mounting, lighting, transporting and storing historical glass objects. Call 792-5504. Attendees will be provided van service from Kapiolani Community College's parking lot D, as there is no parking at the Doris Duke mansion.
