Surfers defeat Paddlers in HCBL
Kevin Grove's two-run triple highlighted a four-run seventh as the Surfers defeated that Paddlers 9-4 in a Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League game at Central Oahu Regional Park yesterday.
The Surfers had taken a 2-1 lead into the bottom seventh but broke open the tight contest with seven runs in their final two at-bats. Mark Anderson singled in two of the team's three runs in the eighth to put the game out of reach.
In another HCBL contest, Ralph Knese drove in five runs and Tyler Brubaker three to lead the North Shore Waves over the Kauai Aliis 14-4.
Wahine compete for Canada
Three members of the Hawaii women's water polo team and one from the diving team are competing for their native Canada at the FISU World University Games that began yesterday in Belgrade, Serbia.
Monika Eggens scored a team-high three goals and starting goalie Serena Bredin had 10 saves in yesterday's 9-3 victory over Serbia.
Also competing for Canada are Saara Majuri (water polo) and Emma Friesen (diving).
2 volleyball camps at UH-Hilo
Two volleyball skills camps are being offered by Hawaii-Hilo next week.
Both are scheduled for Monday through Wednesday at the UHH gym. The morning sessions are for boys and girls entering grades 2 through 6, and run from 9 a.m. until noon. The afternoon sessions are for girls entering grades 7 through 12 and run from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m.
