Notes
» Despite his team's recent slide, Shane Victorino (St. Anthony) remains in fifth in All-Star fan voting among National League outfielders, according to the most recently updated voting totals released on June 23. The Maui native sits at 1,371,362 votes—208,855 votes ahead of Manny Ramirez. The Phillies' 10-0 win over the Blue Jays yesterday was just their third win in their last 14 games. Victorino is in the midst of a minor hitting slump, going 1-for-14 in his last four games.
» Dane Sardinha (Kamehameha) reported to Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday after being designated for assignment by the Detroit Tigers last weekend.
» Kila Ka'aihue ('Iolani) ended his 25-game home run drought last Sunday, hitting two bombs in a 5-4 loss to Triple-A Albuquerque. Ka'aihue hit another home run on Thursday, and has gone .381 (8-for-21) in his last six games.
» Kala Ka'aihue ('Iolani) has only three hits and two RBIs in his last nine games playing for Double-A Mississippi. The first baseman's average has dipped to .172 this season.
» Steven Wright (Hawaii) has not surrendered a run in his last six appearances for Double-A Akron, striking out eight in 10 2/3 innings.
» The Boston Red Sox organization assigned Jon Hee (Mid-Pacific, Hawaii) to Single-A Greenville from High Single-A Salem on Thursday. The third baseman struggled with Salem, hitting .233 with 18 RBIs in 43 games.
» Matt Daly (Hawaii) continues to excel in his role as full-time closer with Single-A Lansing, striking out the side in Thursday's 6-5 win over Dayton to pick up his 13th save in 14 tries. Daly struck out the game's last two batters in six pitches. “;He got into that role midway through the first half and got hot,”; said Lansing manager Clayton McCullough in an article in the Lansing State Journal. “;He's been tremendous and is getting better and better.”; Daly is currently tied for fifth in the Midwest League in saves this season.
» Vinny Catricala (Hawaii) made his debut for the Pulaski Mariners of the Rookie Appalachian League on Tuesday. Seattle took the former Hawaii third baseman with their 293rd pick in the 10th round of this year's Major League First-Year Player Draft. Catricala decided to forego his senior season at Hawaii and signed with the Mariners on June 19. He has yet to record a minor-league hit, going 0-for-14 in his first four games playing for Pulaski.
» Recently drafted local players Carlton Tanabe (Pearl City), Kaohi Downing (Punahou), and Cameron Bayne (St. Louis) agreed to terms with the major league clubs that drafted them and reported to their respective minor league assignments early this week.
» The New York Mets organization purchased the contract of Gered Mochizuki (Baldwin) from the Southern Illinois Miners of the independent Frontier League on Thursday. The shortstop went 0-for-3 in his first game playing for the Kingsport Mets of the Rookie Appalachian League on Friday. Mochizuki hit .269 with 12 RBIs and seven stolen bases in 25 games with the Miners this season. (For more on Mochizuki, see the story below.)
» Tyler Davis (Hawaii) was released by the Southern Illinois Miners last Sunday. Davis compiled an ERA of 8.44 in 10 appearances with the Miners.
» Onan Masaoka (Waiakea) leads the independent Northern League with 43 strikeouts, but the starting pitcher is fourth in walks (21) and first in home runs allowed (12).
