Enjoy 'Top Gun' for free in Waikiki

If sitting by the pool—or floating in it—eating a hot dog and watching a true-blue movie sounds like a good way to launch Independence Day weekend, the Embassy Suites-Waikiki Beach Walk is ready to oblige.

A free showing of “;Top Gun”; is set for 8 p.m. Friday at the resort's Grand Lanai. The event is open to the public. Viewers can watch while floating in the pool on red, white and blue inflatable rafts, or purchase a cocktail and hot dog and relax on chaise lounges. Seating is limited and on a space-available basis.

The movie will be shown on a 10-by-14 foot screen.

Viewers can order cocktails and non-alcoholic drinks during the show, and pupus from the poolside Pakini Bar. For more information, visit www.EmbassySuitesWaikiki.com.

Cirque Polynesia finds Maui venue

As if you needed a reason besides the scenery to visit Maui, now visitors can take in Cirque Polynesia, 75 minutes of non-stop action from acrobats, illusionists and masters of balance. The show is playing nightly except Tuesdays at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa through October.

The cast features performers from Hawaii, Russia, Germany, Kazakhstan and Moldova, including members of the legendary Wallenda family. The show's score is performed live by Diane Salonga Rubio, a classically trained cellist, flute, ukulele and strings musician, along with Dan Cruces on keyboards, drums, electric percussion and trumpet.

Show-only tickets or dinner-and-show tickets are available through http://www.CirquePolynesia.com or call 808-667-4540. For dinner-and-show tickets, check-in is at 5 p.m. at Umalu Restaurant. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for the show and show-only tickets, with the performance beginning at 7 p.m. All seats are open on a first-come, first-seated basis.
