1 of 3 alleged robbers are arrested

Police arrested an 18-year-old Kaneohe man who allegedly was one of three men who robbed a 19-year-old man at gunpoint earlier this month.

Police said the victim gave the suspect and another man a ride to a gas station in Kaneohe at 9:55 p.m. June 1.

On the drive back to their vehicle, the two men allegedly ordered the victim to park and give them everything he had, police said.

The 18-year-old then searched him while the other suspect searched the vehicle, police said.

The victim looked out the vehicle and saw a third man standing behind some bushes aiming a shotgun at him, police said.

The 18-year-old suspect threatened the victim, saying the man with the shotgun was upset and would shoot him, police said.

The suspects took the victim's cash and property and fled on foot, police said.

The suspect was arrested Thursday on suspicion of second-degree robbery, but the case was reclassified to first-degree robbery, police said.

Driver runs down homeless man

Police were looking for a man who deliberately struck a 43-year-old homeless man with his car.

Police said witnesses saw the male driver of a two-door tan Ford sedan speed up, then strike the victim on Farrington Highway a quarter mile west of Keaau Beach Park about 10:40 p.m. Thursday.

The victim was in critical condition with a possible broken leg and head injuries, police said.

Police have classified the case as attempted murder.

Police did not provide further information.

Lifeguards make 7 rescues at Waikiki

Oahu lifeguards made seven rescues at Waikiki beach yesterday as a high surf advisory for the south shore continued.

Lifeguards also conducted 68 assists and gave 310 verbal warnings at Waikiki. At Ala Moana Beach Park, lifeguards made one assist and gave 130 warnings.

The 8-foot surf advisory will remain in effect through this afternoon. Another south swell is expected on Tuesday.

The Ocean Safety and Lifeguard Services Division urges inexperienced swimmers and surfers to use extreme caution, and encourages the public to swim at beaches with lifeguards.
