Crews rescue 4 people from the water
Lifeguards and firefighters rescued two swimmers and two paddlers yesterday in separate incidents at Kewalo Basin and at the Mokulua Islands off Kailua, a fire official said.
About 3 p.m., firefighters responded to reports of two paddlers in distress of Lanikai. When firefighters arrived, lifeguards had already brought both paddlers to shore, including one who had a lower leg injury, said Honolulu Fire Capt. Robert Main.
Earlier in the day, firefighters received a call about three swimmers needing help near the Kewalo Basin harbor entrance. Lifeguards were able to bring in two of the swimmers and a third, thought to be missing, turned up on shore, Main said.
