Wichmann gets academic honor

Hawaii senior Annett Wichmann became the school's sixth academic All-American yesterday when she was named to the ESPN The Magazine women's track and field first team.

Wichmann finished seventh in the heptathlon at last week's NCAA Championships. This is the third consecutive year she has made the ESPN All-America team. She was a four-year All-Western Athletic Conference academic selection.

 

Olympians appear at Twisters camp

Two members of the Olympic silver-medal-winning U.S. women's gymnastics team are scheduled to appear at the Hawaiian Island Twisters Gymnastics Club's summer training camp today.

Bridget Sloan and Samantha Peszek and coach Marvin Sharp will be available for an autograph session at 2 p.m. today at the HIT gym (1151 Mapunapuna St.).

HIT's summer camp is scheduled for July 13-17 and is open to girls and boys, ages 5 and older. Call 839-4494.

 

Volleyball tourney in July

The fourth Scott's Hawaii/Kailua VBC Volleyball Tournament is scheduled for July 17-18 at McKinley High gym.

The six-man indoor tournament features round-robin play with play in men's open and A divisions. Entry fee is $75 per team by July 13.

Tinman Triathlon needs volunteers

Volunteers are needed for next month's Tinman Triathlon in Waikiki.

Helpers are being sought for the setup on July 25 and the postrace breakdown on July 26. For information, call Joan Davis at 535-9070.

The July 26 race has an 800-meter swim, a 40-kilometer bike ride and a 10-kilometer run. It begins at 5:30 a.m. at Queen's Beach and finishes at Kapiolani Park.
