Mobi PCS expands Internet service

Mobi PCS, which launched its Hele wireless broadband service on Oahu in 2008, is extending it to Maui and the Big Island.

As with Mobi's unlimited wireless phone service, Hele offers the latest in wireless technology at a flat rate and no contract. Hele's rate is normally $34 for mobile broadband in Hawaii; however, new customers can receive Hele for only $20 monthly for the first three months of service until July 1.

On the Big Island, Mobi PCS is available through retail locations in Hilo's Prince Kuhio Plaza and inside Kona Coast Shopping Center's KTA Super Store. On Maui, Mobi is available at its Queen Kaahumanu Center location in Kahului. For more information, call 688-MOBI or go to http://www.mobipcs.com.

Kapalua Spa to open Saturday

The new Kapalua Spa, spanning five acres amid Kapalua Resort, will mark its grand opening on Saturday.

It has 19 treatment rooms, including 10 outdoor hale, or bungalows, three stone soaking tubs and dual treatment spaces for couples. The facility overlooks the ocean.

Venture capitalists to discuss energy

The Hawaii Venture Capital Association will explore recently passed clean-energy initiatives at its June 25 luncheon at the Plaza Club.

State Rep. Hermina Morita; Jeff Mikulina, executive director of the Blue Planet Foundation, and Kelly King, vice president of Pacific Biodiesel, will serve as panelists during the event from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The cost is $29 for members of HVCA and affiliated organizations, $39 for nonmembers and $25 for students.

2 career fairs offered downtown

The University of Phoenix Hawaii campus will host two employment events on July 8, in rooms 101 and 102 at the TOPA Financial Center.

Employers in fields such as banking, government, health care and telecommunications will accept resumes at a noon-to-5 p.m. career fair. Faculty members will discuss career-preparation basics at a workshop from 12:30 to 1 p.m.

2,500 expected for science event

A National Science Foundation conference, sponsored by the Division of Civil, Mechanical and Manufacturing Innovation, is expected to bring 2,500 attendees to Hawaii.

The conference, set for Monday through June 25 at the Hawaii Convention Center, also is expected to generate more than $11.8 million in statewide spending, with more than $1.1 million in tax revenue. The convention center's hotel partners will benefit with more than 20,000 rooms booked.

Sam's Club to open gas station

Sam's Club will open its first Hawaii gas station at about 2 p.m. today, following a 10 a.m. blessing. The 24-pump station at 1019 Makolu St. will offer club members two types of gasoline as well as diesel fuel from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sundays.

Annual memberships with Sam's Club start at $35 and $40.
