RUN, BRYAN, RUN

The draw of the track brings him back

That's what happens with champions of a rarefied caliber — they can't walk away.

In the case of decathlon champ Bryan Clay, make that “;can't run away.”;

After winning the gold medal in the 2008 Olympic Games, the former Hawaii athlete was so burned out that he took months off from training and competing, which he'd done almost nonstop for more than 10 years leading up to Beijing.

The 29-year-old spent time in his California home with his wife and two young kids and made public appearances and fulfilled commitments to sponsors. “;The world's greatest athlete,”; who has helped promote youth fitness here, has continually been a great role model.

He says he enjoyed the time off, and yet ...

...The hunger to compete was too great. And now he's back on track, literally, and is on to national championships in Oregon, on a scaled-back schedule. Good luck, Bryan — more Feats of Clay to enjoy.

NOTHING'S SAFE

Gently weeping over stolen guitars

After a few days of nail biting, the guitars are safe.

Local entertainer Anuhea Jenkins' pickup got broken into, and someone made off with two guitars. They ended up sitting in a pawn shop.

It's fortunate that the guitars are safe, but a laptop stolen at the same time still remains at large.

Sad to say, but nothing seems safe anywhere anymore.
