Ace not enough for Wie at LPGA
POSTED: Sunday, June 14, 2009
Despite her first hole-in-one as a tour member, Honolulu's Michelle Wie shot her second consecutive round over par to drop down the McDonald's LPGA Championship leaderboard. Her 1-over 73 left her at 1-over 217, 11 shots behind Anna Nordqvist.
Unfortunately for the Punahou School graduate, the ace was a rare third-round highlight at this year's second LPGA Tour major, held at the Bulle Rock Golf Course in Havre de Grace, Md.
After the ace at lucky No. 7 and a birdie at No. 8, Wie reeled off five consecutive pars before back-to-back bogeys at Nos. 14 and 15 dropped her down the leaderboard. She is tied for 46th, with eight golfers still needing to complete their rain-shortened third rounds.
In yesterday's round, Wie hit 13 fairways and 14 greens in regulation, but needed 32 putts.
