Local promoters BAMP Project introduce a new local band showcase, with plans to give one lucky group the opportunity to open for MGMT on July 16 at Pipeline Cafe.

The first-ever edition of “;The Opening”; will feature performances by Amity Street, the Jumpoffs, Busekrus, Vaive Atoish and Satellite Gray. No word on who the judges will be at this invite-only battle; doors open at 9 p.m. tomorrow for the 21-and-over crowd.

 

”;Space Truckin'”;

“;Space Truckin'”; returns to Chinatown for its second month Saturday, following up on May's headlining set by DJ Garth with an evening of disco and danceable rock by DJ Juan Nunez. He's described as “;one of the most respected DJs in Los Angeles”; by thirtyninehotel's DJ Mark Chittom, who also promises that “;you never know exactly what to expect, but somehow it all fits together nicely.”;

Doors open at 10 p.m. tomorrow; a $10 cover charge will be in effect at the door.

 

Monday, June 15

”;Make A—Mondays”;

The promoters behind the short-lived “;Mixed Plate Mondays”; weekly are back with another college party on a Monday night.

“;Make A—Mondays”; kicked off last week as an 18-and-over affair with free parking at the Ross store next door and a $10 cover charge. Sources report the hotel was a little overwhelmed by the turnout, nearly running out of alcohol at one point during the evening.

 

 

Tuesday, June 16

”;Traffic Light Tuesdays”;

The United DJs set up shop for the summer at the O Lounge on Tuesday, when “;Traffic Light Tuesdays”; kicks off at the O Lounge.

Party people will be given a choice of three different-colored wristbands to wear—red for taken, yellow for seeing someone but still looking, and green for single and ready to mingle. Musical entertainment will be provided by DJs Blayz, Cin and Unknown, with TC on the microphone and a special guest appearance by Albert “;Phat Albert”; Sly, considered by many to be one of the best poppers in the country.

In addition to Sly, next week's kickoff will also feature a special appearance by “;America's Best Dance Crew”; finalists Quest Crew. Future parties will serve as preliminary rounds in the United DJs' “;Hawaii's Best Dance Crew”; contest.

Doors open at 8 p.m. Tuesday for everyone 16 and up; cover is $10 before 9 p.m. Call 479-3008.
