Award-winning pianist to perform
Korean-born pianist Heejin Kang will display her skills on another instrument—the harpsichord—tomorrow evening.
The program includes “;Variations Mein junges Leben hat ein End”; by Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck, the Chromatic Fantasy and Fugue in D Minor, BWV 903 by Johann Sebastian Bach, five works in Ordre XXVII in E Minor by Francois Couperin, and five sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti.
Kang represented Hawaii for the third year in a row in the Music Teachers' National Association Competition, winning First Runner-up for Young Artist in the Southwest Division in Las Crusces, N.M. She was also named a John Young Scholar of 2008, one of the most distinguished scholarships awarded by the University of Hawaii, for her excellence in both music and academics.

Hard Rock party to honor public servants
The Hard Rock Cafe Honolulu celebrates the national chain's 38th anniversary this weekend with an event that honors our city's public servants.
The all-day party starts at 11 a.m. Sunday, with donations being accepted for the Hawaii Food Bank and specially priced 71-cent hamburgers for all community servants, including police officers, firefighters and emergency medical technicians.
In addition, at 3 p.m. the restaurant will hold a chicken wing-eating contest with members of the five military branches facing off against each other for bragging rights—and VIP tickets to the Hard Rock's grand opening party at its new location in Waikiki.
