Museum to fill keikis' summer days

The Contemporary Museum is offering several classes for keiki with time on their hands this summer. Geared toward elementary school-age children, the courses will be held at the museum's main location, 2411 Makiki Heights Drive. » Origami cards: The museum's curator of education, Quala-Lynn Young, teaches three techniques using handmade paper: a simple sailboat, the intermediate twist fish and the challenging butterfly. For ages 6 and up; 1 to 3 p.m. June 26. Cost: $20 ($15 members).

» “;Capturing Nature”;: This two-day workshop, run by artist Jaisy Hanlon, teaches simple methods of observing and rendering plant life, including line drawings and wire models. Students will “;install”; their wire works on the property for a photograph. Inspired by an exhibition of botanical woodcarvings by Yoshihiro Suda, set to run July 11 to Oct. 18. For ages 7 to 12; 1 to 3 p.m. July 16 and 17. Cost: $35 ($30 members).

» Wearable art: Artist Wendy Rosen will lead a three-day workshop during which students will learn about fabric painting, sun printing and dyeing to create clothing and beach totes. For ages 6 to 12; 1to 3 p.m. July 20, 22 and 24. Cost: $50 ($45 members).
