2010 Toyota Prius rolls into Hawaii

The 2010 Prius is now available at Toyota dealers in Hawaii. The new Prius offers fuel-economy estimates of 51 miles per gallon city, 48 miles per gallon highway and 50 miles per gallon combined. Other features include Intelligent Park Assist and a pre-collision system that were previously only available in Lexus LS sedans.

Base manufacturers' suggested retail price for the 2010 Toyota Prius at Toyota dealers in Hawaii starts at $22,000.

Toyota-Hawaii dealers include Big Island Toyota, Maui Toyota and the Servco Auto Centers: Servco Auto Honolulu, Servco Auto Leeward, Servco Auto Windward and Kauai Toyota.

Hawaiian Air passenger traffic drops

Hawaiian Airlines carried 6.3 percent fewer passengers in May from the year-earlier period when it received an influx of traffic due to the shutdowns of Aloha and ATA airlines at the start of that month. The number of passengers on Hawaiian was 694,543 last month, down from 740,865 a year ago. The load factor, or percentage of seats filled, decreased 2.4 percentage points to 83.3 percent from 85.7 percent.

Revenue passenger miles, or one paying passenger transported one mile, fell 2 percent to 682.6 million from 696.2 million. Available seat miles, or one seat transported one mile, rose 0.9 percent to 819.5 million from 812.2 million.

Most isle residents taking vacation

Seventy-five percent of AAA Hawaii members said they will take at least one leisure trip this summer, while 74 percent plan to travel at least as much as they did last summer and 75 percent also said they will spend at least as much on their trips as in 2008, according to an AAA Hawaii survey.

Google to mark Tetris' anniversary

Google's signature home page will feature the look of the distinctive world-famous playing pieces of Tetris today in honor of the game's 25th anniversary.

Honolulu-based Blue Planet Software manages the exclusive licensing rights to Tetris, which was born on June 6, 1984, when Russian mathematician Alexey Pajitnov played his first game after two weeks of programming. Video game publisher Henk Rogers discovered the game and brought it to Nintendo's Game Boy. Eventually, Rogers and Pajitnov formed Blue Planet Software to manage the licensing of the casual computer game.

Wilcox nurses ratify contract

The Hawaii Nurses Association said Wilcox Memorial Hospital nurses have ratified a new three-year contract that maintains the status quo on wages for the life of the pact and keeps the health-care plan the same. In addition, the contract maintains a provision for the parties to review and assess the Patient Classification System within four months.

HNA, which said the contract was affirmed by 80 percent of those voting, represents 130 registered nurses at Wilcox.

» Marriott International Inc. has hired Lisa Matsuda as marketing communications manager for the six Marriott Resorts in Hawaii. She has 13 years' experience, including as CRM program manager with Prudential Locations.

» The National Restaurant Association has elected Victor Lim to the board of directors. He is owner and operator of seven McDonald's restaurants in Hawaii.
