The tradewinds, that is. It's been downright hot and humid lately, and the lack of tradewinds has just oven-baked things. It hit 92 degrees in Honolulu on Sunday — and gasp! no, that wasn't even a record for that day; try 93 degrees. And day temperatures have stayed in the high 80s since then. Fans are running overtime.

But relief, the weatherpeople say, is on its way with the gradual return of the trades. Now if only those winds would blow away the pesky little critters — the ants, the roaches — that venture out when the temperature goes up.

Blood pressures sure to rise with Waikiki meter rates

Threats of raising parking rates in Waikiki have beachgoers and park users up in arms.

And they might have a point.

The beach and park are among the last bastions of free, wholesome entertainment around, and raising the rates by a proposed 500 percent just doesn't seem right.

And this time around, TheBus isn't really a viable option. Surfboards and public transportation don't quite mix.

A protest rally is scheduled for 3 p.m. Monday near the Elks Club at 2933 Kalakaua Ave.
