Big City Diner, egg firm help out

Everyone benefits from a benefit for Big Brothers Big Sisters on Tuesday.

Big City Diner and Kalei Eggs are offering free breakfast from 7 to 8 a.m. at all Big City Diner locations with the purchase of a beverage—and a secret password which will be “;tweeted”; out this week to Twitter followers of the restaurant.

The promotion encourages patrons to donate what they would have paid for their meal to Big Brothers Big Sisters.

'Aina Gourmet opens on Maui

The culinary crew behind Lahaina's Pacific'O and I'O restaurants have opened the 'Aina Gourmet Market, a food store and cafe in the Honua Kai Resort & Spa. They celebrate Sunday with music, lei making, face painting, coffee roasting demos, menu sampling and a chocolate fountain, noon to 4 p.m.

The venue is committed to the “;100-mile market”; concept, in which products come from a 100-mile radius. “;Local products are more fresh, often more nutritional and good for our local economy,”; says Angel Green, market manager. “;We stock Maui produce first, preferably from smaller farms and island-based businesses.”;

The market offers fresh eggs, organic produce, meats, wines, chocolates, coffee, gelato and panini. Vendors include Olowalu Farms, Ono Farms, Maui Cattle Co., Anahola Granola, Oils of Aloha, Maui Brewing Co. and O'o Farm.

'Ultimate' brunch offered at Smith's

Plan for a weekend getaway and attend the 21st annual Taste of Hawaii “;Ultimate Sunday Brunch,”; 11:30 a.m. June 7 at Smith's Tropical Paradise in Wailua, Kauai.

The event, organized by the Rotary Club of Kapaa and chefs Jean-Marie Josselin and Alan Wong, features 50 isle chefs, more than 15 beverage vendors, entertainment, an auction and more.
